The Surety & Fidelity Association of America (SFAA) is licensed as a Rating or Advisory Organization in all U.S. jurisdictions and also acts as a statistical agent for the collection and reporting of experience for the fidelity and surety lines of business. In addition, SFAA is the trade association for insurers writing fidelity and surety bonds, acting on behalf of its members in a variety of arenas.

Membership in The Surety & Fidelity Association of America is open to companies that are licensed to engage in the business of surety or fidelity bonding, or as a reinsurer. Alien companies that are not so licensed may become foreign affiliates.

Promotion of the products of the surety and fidelity industry is at the foundation of all of SFAA’s member services. SFAA has served as the industry thought leader and trusted adviser for over a century, promoting surety and fidelity bonds as the gold standard.

SFAA advocates, monitors and reports to members on industry-related legislative, regulatory and judicial developments. Staff also present SFAA’s position on issues to legislatures, agencies, courts, and trade associations and promotes the interests of members.

SFAA develops and files countrywide surety and fidelity manual rules, loss costs and standard fidelity forms. Members may elect to provide SFAA with authorization to file on their behalf or may submit independent filings. Authorizations are filed on a by-state, by-company basis.

SFAA develops and files (on an advisory basis where required) standard fidelity forms and endorsements for policies, bonds and other forms for optional use by members. Current members are also free to utilize SFAA copyrighted material to develop filings independently.

Members can access staff for help on a wide range of matters from risktype classifications and analysis of bond forms to development of a mentoring program and industry specific recruiting support.

Membership provides a valuable forum to discuss topics of common interest within the bounds of SFAA’s Antitrust Guidelines and to build industry relationships. All members are invited to participate on the SFAA Board’s advisory committees.

SFAA provides industry-specific educational seminars and programs to promote public understanding of and confidence in the surety and fidelity bonding industries and products, and to support member training efforts.

As a licensed statistical agent, SFAA collects statistical plan and financial statement data and satisfies members’ mandatory reporting requirements countrywide. SFAA develops aggregate industry statistical reports available on the member section of the SFAA website.

All members pay an annual assessment fee based upon their latest three-year surety, fidelity, and forgery direct premium writings in addition to a minimum assessment. Foreign affiliates are assessed at a lower rate. There are no additional charges for state filing authorizations.

Members receive:

  • User Name/Password credentials to access the Members Only Section of the SFAA website. The Members Only section contains a wealth of information including up-to-date statistical reports, regulatory filing materials, committee minutes, Fidelity and Surety Manuals, and Binder of Standard Fidelity Forms.
