Congress Extends Funding for VA Hospital Project in Colorado

Tuesday, May 26, 2015
As Congress was heading out of town for its week-long Memorial Day recess, legislators made a final push to provide additional funding to complete the Veterans Administration’s (VA) hospital construction project in Aurora, Colorado. The VA estimated that the funds under its current authorization would have run out around May 24, at which time work on the project will stop. Representative Mike Coffman (R-CO) introduced H.R. 2496 and it immediately passed the House by unanimous consent and quickly passed the Senate by a voice vote just before the Memorial Day recess began. The bill increases the VA’s current authorization by $100 million in a three-week extension that avoids the shut down and gives Congress more time to negotiate a long term solution.
