New Mexico to Consider Alternatives to Bonding

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

The New Mexico General Services Division (GSD) is forming a subcommittee to discuss alternatives to bonding of public works projects that could save the State money. Alternatives that have been suggested include use of Subguard, requiring only a payment bond from general contractor and eliminating any subcontractor bonds and eliminating the bond in lieu of a State contractor prequalification process. The GSD is looking for representatives of sureties, agents and the various contractor groups to participate in this subcommittee. The GSD currently contemplates a series of meetings on these topics. Does any SFAA member have a person locally in the Santé Fe area that would be able to participate in this process? If so, please let us hear from you soon. The GSD wants to begin consideration of bonding within the next month.
