Wisconsin—New Draft of Surety Indexing Bill—Action Requested

Wednesday, January 27, 2016

SFAA and AIA continue our work on eliminating the required indexing of the Wisconsin bond threshold. There is support in the legislature for eliminating the indexing for inflation, but lowering the current bond thresholds raised some concerns. The current indexed threshold is $369,000 for state projects and $148,000 for local project, and SFAA and AIA had been seeking to lower the threshold to $100,000. At this time, we first are seeking the elimination of the indexing requirement only. To demonstrate the benefits of the bond, SFAA currently is seeking information from its members regarding claims paid in Wisconsin, to show the impact if bonds
are not in place if the contractor defaults.
